Mr. Wheels Daily Dispatch - Thursday, November 5, 2026

Congress flips, and disability advocates smell a fighting chance. Democrats won majorities in both the House and Senate on Tuesday, and Disability Scoop reports advocates now see new tools for oversight hearings and appropriations. Incoming Speaker Hakeem Jeffries said his party would work to reverse the nearly $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts approved last year, though a Trump veto could stand in the way. (Disability Scoop, Nov. 5, 2026)

HHS finalized a rule saying gender dysphoria not resulting from physical impairments is not a disability under Section 504, per AmeriDisability (Nov. 4, 2026). And the California Health Care Foundation reports the administration has frozen almost $3 billion in home care funds for California, money that pays caregivers for seniors, people with disabilities and children (The Business Journal, Nov. 3, 2026).

Mr. Wheels take: The election gave us a lever, not a rescue. Call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask your members of Congress to hold hearings on Medicaid home and community-based services. Real voices. Real impact. Real change.
