Coming out belongs on your terms
October 11 is National Coming Out Day. I’m celebrating people being themselves—and respecting the people who aren’t ready to share. Nobody owes the internet, a relative, or a caregiver an announcement.
For disabled LGBTQ+ people, a welcoming space should offer practical access as well as a kind message: captions, a usable entrance, a way to participate from home, and respect for privacy. Ask before posting someone’s photo, tagging them, or sharing what they told you.
Today’s community guide will look at coming out on your own terms and how friends, caregivers, and community groups can offer support without taking control. Your identity is yours. So is the timing.
